Travels in Vietnam (1996) 12/14

Hanoi - a street given over
tourist trinkets. Hanoi (at
least in 1996) had none of the
large shopping centers that
are common in Thailand,
China, Hong Kong etc.
Hanoi - this major bridge
across the Red River was in
perilous repair
The city of Hanoi turns its
back on the river, and
protects itself with high flood
embankments
75 km south west of Hanoi
one enters a spectacular
karst landscape of limestone
pillars, similar to those in the
more famous Ha Long Bay
Lush mountain scenery is
matched by lush vegetation
The Ngo Dong river winds
through a land that surely
belongs to elves..
Hoa Lu was the capital of
the Dinh Dynasty (980 to
1009 A.D.)
