My interesting idea is that what seems like a long time changes as we age. ~ This idea is interesting for me because I have been alive for 70 years. For me 70 years is a very short time. For you it might seem a very long time. Why? ~ I live in a house where there is a 5 year old boy (not my child!). 2.5 years is half of his life. 70 years is more than he can imagine. 35 years is half of my life. That seems like yesterday. ~ In 35 years I will be 105 years old. That seems like tomorrow. For you, maybe 35 years is more than double your life. Perhaps you feel that you have plenty of time. For me, I feel that life has hardly begun, but time is going faster and faster. What can I do? ~ The younger people are, the older people think I am. I don’t feel old at all. I feel fit and healthy and energetic. Employers and governments DEMAND that I “be old”. Getting a job is impossible. Overseas working visas are impossible. Even keeping a truck driving licence suddenly costs $140 per year for a medical test. ~ Carpe diem, seize the day. This Latin phrase means “live for the day, don’t worry about the future”. Maybe your career will start at 25 and end at 50. Nobody will give you a job after 50. 25 years is a VERY short time if you live 100 years! Do you think carpe diem is a good idea if time goes faster and faster?
