1. Hallo, Ich heiße Thor May.  

    Hello, my name is Thor May.


2. Ich stamme aus Australien.  

     I come from Australia.


3. Ich bin in einer kleinen Stadt geboren, aber nach zwei Wochen zog meine Familie nach Sydney um, im Jahr 1945. 

I was born in a small town but only lived there for two weeks before my family moved to Sydney in 1945.

 

4. Sydney ist eine Großstadt und meine Familie zog oft um, als ich Kind war.  

     Sydney is a big city and my family moved frequently when I was a child.

 

5. Als Erwachsener zog ich auch oft um. 

    I have also moved frequently as an adult.

 

6. Seit 1976 bin ich entweder Lehrer oder Hochschullehrer. 

    Since 1976 I have been a teacher or university lecturer.

 

7. Ich bin in sieben Ländern berufstätig gewesen. 

    I have worked in seven countries.

 

8. Meine Berufe sind Englischlehrer und Linguistikforscher.  

    My professions are teaching English and researching linguistics.

 

9. Linguistik ist die Wissenschaft der Sprachen.  

    Linguistics is the science of language.

 

10. Ich bin sehr neugierig, wie Sachen funktionieren – die Technik, Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft, Menschen und, vor allem, das menschliche Gehirn.  

     I am very curious about how things work – technology, science, societies, people, and especially the human brain.

 

11. Ich habe es gern zu laufen und fit zu bleiben. 

      I like to run and to stay fit.

 

12. Ich habe keine Schulden, doch ich habe auch nicht viel Geld.  

      I have no debts, but I don’t have much money either.

 

13. Manchmal bin ich stur. 

     Sometimes I am stubborn.

 

14. Ich war schon immer unabhängig und unverheiratet. 

      I have always been independent and unmarried.

 

15. Ich bin eher schüchtern und finden es schwierig, Freundschaften zu schließen.  

      I am rather shy and find it difficult to start friendships.

 

16.  Mein Hauptziel ist es, ein interessantes Leben zu führen. 

            My main aim is to have an interesting life.
