Background:

After World War II in 1945 the Soviet Union rapidly took control of much of Central and Eastern Europe, including a section of Germany. The Internal German Wall separating East and West Germany and Berlin Wall dividing Berlin were built in 1961 to prevent East Germans fleeing to the West which was much richer. About 2.5 million East Germans did go west before the wall was built. The barriers were removed in 1989. More than 200 people were killed trying to cross them.

Task:

Your real task here is complex description in the English language.

Imagine that you are an East German wishing to escape to West Germany in 1980.

You have the above diagram of the German Iternal Wall. You know that people regularly die trying to get across this barrier.

Systematically describe the obstacles, problems and dangers you would meet moving across the barrier. You are starting from the East German side.
