Later her told the flipperty girl
Who made up the beds and sold cigarettes
In Stumpy's Roadhouse & Motel
That strange feelings had licked at the edge of his brain,
That time was adrift and care seemed unhinged
For a moment or two on that day -
She tossed him a glance as she picked up a broom
As a girl who was wise about men
And said without charm, "now stop it right there."
